　　算命以《易經》為根基、以陰陽五行體系為理論依據，其中《易經》有“三易”，包括《連山》、《歸藏》、《周易》三部易書，內容極其豐富，對中國幾千年來的政治、經濟、文化等各個領域都產生了極其深刻的影響。是闡述天地世間關于萬象變化的古老經典，是博大精深的辯證法哲學書，是中國傳統思想文化中自然哲學與人文實踐的理論根源，是古代漢民族思想、智慧的結晶，被譽為“大道之源”。

　　《易經》從整體的角度去認識和把握世界，把人與自然看做是一個互相感應的有機整體，即“天人合一”。《易經》長期被用作“卜筮”，其中《周易》被部分人認為是一本最早的卜筮之書。“卜筮”就是對未來事態的發展進行預測，而《易經》便是總結這些預測的規律理論的書。有很多人誤以為《易經》就是《周易》，《周易》就是《易經》，其實這種理解是不對的，簡單的說周易和易經是一種從屬關系，《易經》包含了《周易》，《周易》則是《易經》的一部分。

　　古代人們對算命占卜癡迷是因為《禮記·經解》：“《易》曰：君子慎始，差若毫厘，謬以千里。”因此古人認為的微小改變會對未來命運有很大影響。古時候算命通常是一種利用個人切身資訊，比如生辰八字、姓名筆劃，手與臉的紋路等配合術數來預測或判斷命運吉兇福禍，并且尋求指點迷津的行為，也稱之為指迷算命。

　　狹義的算命是指對人生辰八字即出生時間的推算預測，比如四柱八字、六柱預測；廣義的算命則涵蓋相術（看面相手相）、紫微斗數、奇門遁甲、八卦六爻等等，還有古代的占卜、筮法、青烏術等均屬于算命范疇。生活中我們平常所說的算命泛指四柱八字預測。

　　算命作為一門探究人類命運的學問，不乏對其感興趣之人，有名的算命大師也有不少，唐代有李虛中、李淳風、袁天罡等，五代有徐居易，宋有徐子平、僧道洪，元有徐大升，明有劉伯溫，清有沈孝瞻、陳素庵，民國有韋千里、袁樹珊、任鐵樵，現代有邵偉華，李居明，秦陽明等。

　　中華文化博大精深，就算命術而言，它是古代人民經過多年實踐總結而成的智慧結晶，是推測人命運休咎的行為，理論核心是陰陽五行、天干地支及伏羲八卦，理論系統較為復雜深奧。千百年來經過人們的不斷發展與完善，已經形成了一套較為完善的理論體系，經久未衰。
